Leaves of Thalanaar

Thalanaar is a forgotten waypoint, a flight from here to there, and a memory of a lost age. We strive to rebuild our homeland, and to retake Eldre'thalas and the Lariss Pavilion in order to safeguard the Hidden Hall. Advancement as a household is our primary objective, with none left behind or made to sacrifice too much. Thalanaar is an investment in a collection of people that will grow together, travel together, and covet the friendships and families that we have made. The Leaves of Thalanaar were blown across creation by the Sundering, and rebuilding is not easy; each individual contributes to a whole that they may not see, but in the knowledge that they will have made a better world for those that follow.

Members are family, a society, and a village of peers. Personal beliefs are to be respected, not espoused. Dramatic exchanges and ill will between members of the house is frowned upon - heavily - and will be handled in a swift, firm manner.

Respect is law, regardless of standing, level or caste.

    History

Thalanaar was formed in World of Warcraft on the server Blackwater Raiders from members of the Keepers Pack, House Flamesong, the Hand of Argus and Ravensong. Members that were together in Keepers Pack had gone on to be guildmasters and officers of other guilds in their own right, and had known each other nearly a year before Thalanaar was formed. We chose to rebuild under one name, Turus Thalanaar, and have continued our traditions of heavy role-play with progression, but role-play overall.

After unpleasant patches with 2.0-2.2.3 some players dissatisfied with Blackwater Raiders as a role-play server rolled on the Drenden, Sisters of Elune, and Shadow Council servers, but have maintained relations. All members have been welcome to remain members under Thalanaar.org, and most have. Some Thalanaar members still disatisfied with the level of role-play established a horde guild, Alori Thalanaar, whose story has come to reflect one of understanding and even allegiance with the home guild. Treaties and ambassadors have been named, and to this day the members still hold council on the same dates, and in the same place, under a banner of truce. In the year that followed, guild outreach spread to posts on the Silvermoon and Moon Guard servers.

We have also developed the Bank of Thalanaar, a guild specifically created for our bank characters, where commerce and trade can occur free of guild activities. Our guild bank is different from most in that we actively role-play trade interactions.

We continue the tradition of a tight knit, well rounded 'family atmosphere' proud of the fact that our growing guild can accomplish many things that larger guilds require more numbers to accomplish. We take pride in what we have built together as a house, and as a family. We do participate in  World Defense, but we are not a PvP or raiding guild. We are not griefers; we deal with the people that have it coming.

    Structure

Our adaptability is a strength bolstered by our discipline - the principle of the greater aristocracy in that all members are free to express their wants, hopes and expectations, but the decisions are left to a few representatives of the membership at large. Guild decisions are made largely by Officers, while decisions of import are brought to the Lariss Plenary, a meeting of the officers held once each month, and on the rare occasion when necessary for the health of the house. Ultimate power is left with the Lord and Lady. Responsibilities are delegated to many members, sometimes on an extended basis and usually to recognize a particular member's strengths. It is quite common to see a member who is responsible for a certain event giving orders to everyone, including the Lord of the house.

Officers function as moderator between members to handle any dispute. Any Officer has the right to bring a matter of import to the council of Lariss Plenary at a meeting for that purpose. The decision of the council will be reflected in a vote after one week to hear all opinions. The Lord and Lady express final word on all things, but agree to abide the general decision of the council of the Lariss Plenary, and any Officer is said to speak the word of the Lord of the house in his absence.

    Members

A member is a member, regardless of rank or the time they have been with us. We invite the player to the guild, not the character, and joining is a serious commitment. Our age range is from thirteen to the mid-sixties, with the average falling in the late 20's to 30's. There is a life outside gaming, and takes priority. We play by a general schedule of events, with the use of many calendars and game add-ons to ensure each member has the ability to be informed of upcoming events. Many members travel together regularly on their main and alts, setting a level curve that some may choose to keep up with, however, members are encouraged to progress at their own pace and enjoy the game at their own speed. Role-play is always the primary focus.

Any and all alternate(s) the player has, real life friends and family members are also welcome into the guild, provided they will abide by the rules of the house as expressed.

We are very proud of what we have built in the past two years. We take the Thalanaar name seriously. In the event that a member leaves on bad terms it is rare they would be invited back into the fold. It is expected that as a member of a mature group with a focus on family and fellowship that you talk out any conflict you may have, and make an effort to resolve it, prior to a player deciding to leave the guild.

    Item Policy

Thalanaar members are asked not to trade or sell items needed by the guild. Items donated to the guild or to a member are compensated to that member by the guild vaults at their request. If an item is not needed by the guild, it should be sold or traded freely and the proceeds then can focus on better applications for the house. Remember please that our goal is to outfit our own, not profit at their expense.

All guild raid items are Need Before Greed. This is a mechanic built into the game, which requires that you have the ability to use an item to be able to roll Need for it. Use common sense when rolling, and please be considerate of your fellows. If a nice item drops and you have already won a nice item on the raid, consider passing to those who have not received an upgrade to their gear over yourself.

Selling game currency, items, or characters is strictly forbidden. It is a violation of World of Warcraft Terms of Use, and will be reported immediately.

Secondary characters or Alts are important, too. The stronger our individual members are, the stronger we are as a whole. Never overlook your (Alt) and be prepared to enjoy them. You have them for a reason; we don't plan to play them all the time, but we play them to provide additional resources to the house, and for our own enjoyment. If you are developing an (Alt) and a main requires a drop that you could also use, please try to remember that they may have a more genuine need.

Try to use common sense and think of the guild as a whole rather than as an individual when deciding to roll on an item. If you win a roll and decide not to use it, be sure to offer it to any others that may use it.

It's always a good idea to discuss loot rules at the beginning of any run, particularly in the event that we invite outsiders to run with us. Normal loot rules as they apply to Thalanaar are as follows:

        Raid Rules:

      • We use a simple Need Before Greed system. Please let the group know that you plan to roll Need.

      • Everyone is welcome to roll for Greed on all drops.

      • Everyone is welcome to roll for Disenchant whenever the option is available.

      • Anyone who chooses not to agree to our policy on looting may leave the group when loot rules are explained, or otherwise risk removal later for failing to abide by it.

All disputes over loot that can not be resolved by following the above rules should be brought to an officers attention immediately to try to work out a fair solution to all involved.

    Group Policy

Thalanaar supports its own members and its friends aggressively. Friends of the house are always welcome and we like meeting other competent players for social gatherings, groups and raiding. If a member needs a group, it's the responsibility of the house as a whole to group that person. We do not ditch on runs, and always strive to provide the best example while providing a roleplay opportunity for ourselves and our friends.

Thalanaar regularly hosts raids, roleplay events, material gathering or other events that are open to all members to join. Guild events are not normally mandatory. Friends and guests that will be respectful are welcome to attend. All events are posted to our Calendar, the Thalanaar and Triptych Accord websites, and the World of Warcraft forums. Most plans are made a few days to a month ahead of time. Saying you don't know the schedule is saying you didn't look.

    Role-Play and Chat

This is a roleplay server, set up for roleplayers to enjoy the game, our way. In addition to Blizzard's normal In-Game Policies, players on Roleplaying servers are expected to abide by the rules outlined in the Role Playing Policy.

This is a heavy roleplay guild. All channels except /thalanaarooc should support roleplay at all times, with no brackets and no breaks in character. After all, that's why we have an ooc chat. If something for purposes of safety or because of very urgent needs must be said in a roleplay channel, please keep it brief and put brackets around it. Repeat offenders may be asked to leave.

The guild is family friendly; kids play here, too. This means chat is to remain PG-13. Unnecessary profanity, messages including any blatant sexual content or threatening messages of any kind will result in a ban/ignore with no reprieve.

No Flaming. If you have to say something negative about another player, please keep it to the facts of the matter, and if the matter is serious, please follow the reporting rules; which include ignoring the offender. Don't turn around and give them a reason to report you in return.

No Drama. We play this game to have fun. Don't scalp or grief other members, players or guilds. Play as though it's the shiny, happy place we all wish it to be, and if someone bursts your happy RP bubble, report them and ignore them, and move on. If you're angry, walk away! Come back after you calm down. First and foremost, this is a family-oriented guild, playing a game. It's JUST a game. If you're taking things too seriously, take a step back and ask yourself why.

In OOC Chat, please be polite and remember that we have visitors from many other guilds that visit /triptychooc on a daily basis. Politics, debates and especially religion are welcome in other private channels created for that purpose. In short, mentions of things that can cause heated tempers, dichotomies of reason and general ill feelings we would not want to see, and should be spared.

    Applicants

Thalanaar is always accepting new role-players. We are usually open to considering new members with a short list of questions and look for mature people who are disciplined, patient, honest, intelligent, generous, team players, and always looking to improve. Once a member is invited, a mentor will be assigned to sponsor you. You must then get to know us and let us get to know you. Once your mentor agrees that you are a good fit, and know enough about the guild to be released, you will be inducted by ceremony to formal guild membership, with rights to our vaults and to establish a bank character of your own. If objections are raised, you will be provided the chance to answer them. Ultimately, we are recognized universally as one of the hardest guilds on our server to join, and that's because we expect the very best of every member, every day.

Membership is a privilege, not a right. We do not like to lose a member once we accept them into the family, but it doesn't mean we will not remove people if need be. Discipline will be discussed first among Officers; past issues or complaints brought to us from Guild Members will be the deciding factor if someone stays or must leave. If an Officer ejects any member, for any reason, that member must agree that terms are acceptable for a former member to return. Since it is a general requirement that all attempts be made to resolve a dispute prior to losing a member, returning is not likely.

We have no member limit and recruit when we are sure we have a good match for our family. This is not a social club, nor is it a race to make the largest guild. We don't care how many epics you have, or how many times you've won the game. We want to know your story, so we can incorporate it into our own. In order to apply for membership, email the Admissions Department, then send an in-game mail to any officer of Thalanaar to let us know. Please include your character name and backstory.

    Web Site & Voice Chat

Our web site is very functional and contains many private resources. You should be aware that our message board is our primary means of communication. Guild events are all planned on this forum and posted to the game calendar. You will be expected to register and visit the site on a regular basis for new information, news and to participate in any planning.

Thalanaar operates a Ventrilo server and encourage members to join in the chat! The guild leader is the owner of the server, and the officers have administrative rights to invite or remove anyone, at any time, for any reason. As always, when loading any add-on or third party software, you are highly encouraged to use only official sources for downloads.
